5 DIY Spring Cleaning Methods

April 14th, 2017

BrushSpring is upon us! And at this point in the year, many of us have at least a few items on our cleaning checklists. How are residents of Redwood City, California finding better ways to spring into cleaning?

Clean Cleaning/ Working Smarter

There are many natural cleaners that are safe for the environment, including vinegar and baking soda, olive oil, or simple soap and water. Work top to bottom on shelves and walls because the dust is making its way down anyway. Always vacuum or sweep last, and soak anything that needs soaking an hour before you plan to clean it. Having a system where you start at the back of your house and work to the door can help you keep focus. Then you can go out to treat yourself when you make it to the door!

When gathering up those old clothes stuffed in the back of your closet, think share! To you, they may be old and outdated, but to another person, they may be new and exciting. You can donate your old clothes and other items to Goodwill, Salvation Army, or have an online sale. You can also use old T-shirts as dust rags.

Being Mindful of the Environment

When de-cluttering your home, remember that your garbage goes somewhere. For old prescriptions, there are many techniques to use to dispose of them properly. Do not flush medications down the sink or toilet. The bottles typically have guidelines for disposal, many local police departments have a confidential disposal, or you can ask your pharmacist.

Saving That Energy

Consider line-drying clothes or cleaning cloths, rather than using your dryer or throwing away the cloths. You can also use a tool belt to hold your cleaning products and spare rags as you make your way through the house.

Welcoming Nature

House plants can provide a natural air filter for your home. Plants release oxygen into the environment, giving your home a cleaner feel for the spring.

A Pat and a Treat

After all of your hard work, give yourself a reward for a job well done. Go out to eat or to a movie. Of course, spring is three months long, so if you’d rather save the cleaning for the end of spring, and instead give Township Apartments a call to find a place that needs no spring cleaning when you move in, pick up that cell phone. You’ll soon discover why Township Apartments are the best in Redwood City apartments!

Spring Fever: How to Decorate Your Apartment for the Season

April 3rd, 2017

TulipsSpring is finally here, and now is a great time to do a little interior redecorating! Looking for some fun, simple ways to decorate your apartment for the season? We’ve got some great ideas!

Brighten Up Your Space With Tulips

Tulips are a staple flower of spring. Bring a little bit of that cheer into your apartment by stopping at your local florist and grabbing an arrangement of fresh tulips to display in your home. Some grocery stores even carry this popular springtime flower, and they come in a variety of bright, cheery hues to add a pop of energizing color to your space.

Add Colorful Bows to Dining Room Chairs

Another quick and simple step you can take to bring the cheer of spring into your apartment is to add some colorful bows to your dining room chairs. Simply head to your local arts and crafts store and pick out some ribbon in your favorite spring colors. Then, tie them into bows around the backs of your dining chairs. If bow-tying isn’t a strength, you can even find pre-made bows at most craft stores. Aim for bright colors and pastels for a true spring feel.

Swap Out Your Throw Pillows

Spring is also a great time to refresh throw pillows on your living room sofa or even on your beds. Pick up some fresh, bright throw pillows from your favorite home goods store and have some fun with them! A mix of fun patterns and bright, solid colors will make your space look more vibrant, and these pillows will look great in your apartment through the end of summer, when you can swap them back out.

Refinish an Old Piece of Furniture

If you’re really feeling crafty, consider refinishing an old piece of furniture or picking one up at a yard sale to restore at a bargain price! Consider, for example, brightening up your apartment space by sanding down an old, dark piece of furniture and repainting it a bright white or pastel color. You can even add some quirky knobs or drawer pulls to make it truly unique. This is a great way to add some one-of-a-kind personality to your apartment without spending a lot of money in the process. And what better time to snag a deal on an old piece of furniture than at a springtime yard sale?

2. Make It Their Day

It’s not often that adults get to do whatever they want all day long. Why not create a magical Valentine’s Day this year by making it their day? Whatever they want, the day is theirs!

3. Turn It Into a First Date

Rekindle the bonds of love that brought you together with your love by making this Valentine’s Day a first date. Agree to meet at a local restaurant or bar for your first date and play the part of two strangers just getting to know each other.

5 Tasty Recipes for National Chocolate Day

October 15th, 2016

National Chocolate Day is on October 28, and it’s going to be one tasty 24-hours for many. The best part about chocolate is that most everyone seems to agree that if you eat it in reasonable quantities, it can lower blood pressure, cholesterol and the risk of heart disease. Plus, it boosts your mood! If you live in the apartments in Redwood City, check out these 5 recipes and then enjoy in a few indulgences (with some milk, of course.)

1. Too Much Chocolate Cake

It almost sounds like a challenge, doesn’t it? It’s devil’s food cake, pudding, sour cream, with chocolate chips, and it’s incredibly easy to make. All you have to do is mix and stir and use your bundt pan to put it all together. It looks incredible and it will be a hit with both kids and adults.

2. Chocolate Top Crispy Bars

It’s basically a Rice Krispie Treats but with chocolate on top (and they’re better than what you’ll find in the store.) Butter, cereal, marshmallows and chocolate get a workout to turn into these gooey treats with a chocolate finish.

3. Chocolate Chip Cookies

Simple and classic, is there anything truly better than a warm cookie in your mouth? Baking fresh cookies from scratch may be a dying art, but you can bring it back with the ultimate recipe for cookies. These cookies are amazing, but you may have to give yourself a lecture to save yourself from eating all the batter.

4. Chocolate Oat Fondant

Anytime you want to feel fancy or French, you can tote these treats to your next gathering. It may take a little longer and a little more effort, but this combination of sugar, cocoa and dark chocolate is heavenly. And you get some oats in there to balance out the flavors (and make you feel slightly less guilty.)

5. Chocolate Muffins

If you’ve never had a morning that justified eating chocolate for breakfast, then congratulations. But if you’re like most people, and could use a bit of an excuse to have some muffin with your coffee, try these to put a little spring in your step and courage in your day.

Eating and loving chocolate is not something to be ashamed of, and those who live and cook in Redwood City apartments should celebrate this day in fine spirits. If you’re looking for a new place to try the recipes out, then Township apartments has kitchens that are perfect for experimenting. Call today to find out more about our availability.
