If you enjoy cycling but have never tried a long-distance journey, there are plenty of reasons to consider it. Long distance cycling isn’t something any rider should take lightly. But with proper preparation, it can be a wonderful and exciting adventure.

Things to Know About Long-Distance Cycling

As a sport, cycling has gained a lot of attention and a good amount of participation. Many people find that it’s a fulfilling way to exercise because it’s not directly competitive. Cyclists are often challenging themselves with longer distances and more advanced terrain. Taking on a long-distance ride can, at first, seem very intimidating. But there’s a major sense of accomplishment in having completed a long-distance ride. It’s not something you can just set out to do with no plan. But it is something that you can work up to if you are serious and you prepare. Here are some tips to prepare for a long-distance journey.

  • Build up stamina. A novice cyclist can’t just jump on their bike and ride 100 miles. Though a century (100 miles) is very much an achievable goal for a serious cyclist. If you’re planning on moving into long-distance cycling, you need to seriously start to work on building up your stamina over some time.
  • Set Goals. Set achievable goals for your level. You don’t want to set goals that are far outside of what you’ve done before because that will often lead to failure. But definitely set goals that continually push your endurance.
  • Pre-Planning. While you’re working up to your long-distance ride, plan your journey. Don’t just have the amount of miles in mind. Pick a destination and start planning the route you’ll take. This will help you mentally prepare.
  • Buddy Up. Find a cycling buddy. This way you can push each other and support each others’ progress.

August 18th, 2016

Pounding the pavement around your apartments in Redwood City can start to feel like quite a bore over time. If you crave a scenic view and ambient nature sounds while you run, head on over to one of the many outdoor running trails in this expansive city. You can enjoy the best of the great outdoors while continuing to tone your physique by regularly utilizing these running trails. You can even bring your dog along on this exciting journey. Here are five awesome running trails to consider for your next run.

Edgewood Park

At Edgewood Park, you can choose from a large variety of trail options crisscrossing through the parkland. Make sure to plan for several stops along your route to give yourself time to enjoy the many treasures in this park space. You may see beautiful butterflies, deer, wildflowers and other elements of nature during your visit.

Redwood Shores Bay Trail Next To Your Redwood City Apartments

The Redwood Shores Bay Trail will inspire you to step outside your Redwood City apartments and run alongside the gorgeous waterfront. No matter which way you turn, you can watch the horizon to enjoy the view of the ocean inlet or San Bruno Mountains.

Bair Island

The trails along Bair Island take you around the various water features found in this area. On windy days, the surf may blow through the air and cool you down as you run. With more than 3,000 acres to cover, you could spend a lifetime on this island without hitting every trail here.

Purisima Creek Redwoods

The Purisima Creek Redwoods trails actively transport you to another world. The trails take you through forested land along the Santa Cruz Mountains. You may spot Half Moon Bay as you trek between the gigantic redwoods.

Stulsaft Park

Stulsaft Park boasts an impressive 42-acres despite its proximity to the nearby city. The parkland naturally feels secluded to help you experience the sensation of leaving it all behind as you run. If you bring along your dog on your runs, make sure to check out the off leash trail.

Try out each running trail on the list to find your favorite location. You may end up wanting to split your time between all of the trails due to their unique views and atmosphere. When you return to your apartment, we invite you to give the team at the Township Luxury Apartments a call at 855-809-8627 to learn about our available floor plans.

5 Yoga Poses to Start Your Day

April 1st, 2016

Even amidst the beautiful climate and luxurious lifestyle of Redwood City Apartments, finding balance can be difficult. Fortunately, it doesn’t need to take much time or energy to infuse your day with both balance and intention. Try these 5 yoga poses to center your mind and body before beginning your day, and notice the rewards continuously unfold.

Standing Half Moon

Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart. Interlace your fingers, pointing the index finger up over head, pressing your feet down into the floor. As you exhale, press your right hip out to the side, arching over to the left side. Reach through your fingers and the crown of your head, and inhale as you return to center. Repeat on the other side.

Forward Fold

From standing, with your hands on your hips, exhale and bend forward from your hip joints. As you descend, lengthen your torso while keeping your legs as straight as possible. Bend slightly into your knees if necessary, and reach your hands to your ankles. Breath. As you return to standing, make sure you rise slowly, stacking one vertebrae at a time.

Cat-Cow Pose

Begin on all fours, arms shoulder-width apart and knees directly under your hips. As you inhale, drop your belly, arch your back and reach your head to the ceiling. Expand your chest and draw your shoulders are away from your ears. As you exhale, draw your belly toward the ceiling, tilt your head and pelvis down and curve your back up.

 Plank Pose

Begin on all fours. Inhale as you extend your knees about a foot behind your hips, coming onto your toes. Breath deeply here. Keep your belly engaged in one, strong line between your feet and the crown of your head. Push into your hands to lengthen your body and hold.

Downward Dog

From plank pose, bring your body into the shape of an “A.” Gently pull you pelvis away from the ground, keeping your legs as straight as possible, and drawing your torso towards the mat. Keep your core engaged, your shoulders away from your ears, and feel as much space between your shoulder blades as you can. Keep breathing and let your heels hover just above the ground.

Move through these 5 poses as a short routine, or pick and choose your favorite ones. Regardless, the time you take to center and breath will provide you with the energy and intention to start your day off in the wonderful Redwood City or wherever else your day takes you!
